Can a 24V @240W Electric Griddle Really Cook a Steak?

Here's What We Tested.

One of the most common questions we hear is simple:

Can a low-power 24V electric griddle actually cook real food?

Instead of relying on specifications alone, we decided to perform another real-world cooking test.

This time, the challenge was straightforward: cook a fresh steak using only a 24V DC power supply with a maximum power consumption of 240 watts.

Test Setup

To simulate a typical vehicle power environment, the griddle was connected directly to a stable 24V DC power source.

Test Conditions

  • Power Supply: 24V DC

  • Maximum Power: 240W

  • Food: Fresh beef steak

  • Ambient Temperature: Indoor laboratory environment

  • Temperature Measurement: Continuous surface temperature monitoring throughout the cooking process

Our goal was not only to see whether the steak could be cooked, but also to understand how stable the cooking temperature remained during the entire process.

Preheating

The griddle was preheated for approximately 2 minutes before placing the steak on the cooking surface.

During preheating, the surface temperature increased rapidly and reached the cooking range required for searing.

Unlike many low-power cooking appliances that require extended waiting times, the griddle reached usable cooking temperatures surprisingly quickly.

Cooking the Steak

Once the steak was placed on the hot plate, the familiar sizzling sound appeared almost immediately.

A golden crust gradually developed on the surface while the aroma of grilled beef filled the room.

Throughout the cooking process, we continuously monitored the cooking surface temperature.

The bottom surface of the griddle remained remarkably consistent, fluctuating between approximately 180°C and 200°C.

Maintaining this temperature range is important because it provides sufficient heat for browning while avoiding excessive temperature drops when food is added.

After approximately 6 minutes, the steak was fully cooked.

The exterior developed an even sear, while the interior reached a thoroughly cooked state suitable for everyday meals.

Why Temperature Stability Matters

Peak temperature often attracts attention, but for practical cooking, temperature stability is even more important.

A cooking appliance that briefly reaches a high temperature but cannot maintain it may struggle to deliver consistent results.

During this test, the RoadSizz griddle maintained a stable cooking surface throughout the process, demonstrating that a relatively modest 240W power input can still provide practical cooking performance when heat is efficiently transferred and managed.

What This Test Shows

This test was not intended to compare RoadSizz with household kitchen appliances operating from 230V AC power.

Instead, it was designed to evaluate what is realistically possible within the limitations of a 24V vehicle electrical system.

The results suggest that, under these test conditions:

  • A 2-minute preheat was sufficient for cooking preparation.

  • Surface temperature remained around 180–200°C during cooking.

  • A steak could be fully cooked in approximately 6 minutes.

  • Stable heat output contributed to consistent cooking performance.
